Jetson AI Training Series: Building & Deploying AI Models on Edge Devices
On 23 May 2026, the IEEE Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Subsection, in collaboration with CAIRO, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Kuala Lumpur, successfully hosted the first of the Jetson AI Training Series planned for 2026. The workshop aimed to introduce participants to practical artificial intelligence (AI) development and deployment on edge devices, with a strong focus on hands-on learning.
A Blend of Theory and Practice
The session was led by Dr. Ibrahim Shapiai, a certified NVIDIA DLI trainer, supported by facilitators Muhammad Thaqif Iman, Syahmi and Ikmal. The program combined lecture-based learning with practical exercises, ensuring participants gained both theoretical knowledge and real-world experience.
Key Topics Covered
During the workshop, participants explored:
- GitHub management for AI project files
- Edge AI development using Jetson Orin Nano
- Customized CNN model creation
- Model deployment and inference on edge devices
Hands-On Experience
Attendees were guided through the complete AI workflow, starting with model preparation and training, followed by inference and deployment on the Jetson Orin Nano. By the end of the workshop, the participants had successfully experienced how a CNN-based AI model can be trained, tested and deployed for real-time applications.
Outcomes and Impact
The workshop achieved its objectives by:
- Strengthening participants’ understanding of edge AI
- Promoting practical AI learning within the IEEE and CAIRO UTM community
- Encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing among participants from diverse backgrounds
This initiative reflects IEEE’s mission of advancing technology for humanity, providing valuable technical exposure in AI, embedded systems and edge computing.
Look out for the next Jetson AI Series in the near future!
